Idle Timer, Disable

Disabling the Idle Timer function prevents the engine from automatically shutting down during extended idling periods. On DAF trucks, the default system protects the engine and saves fuel by shutting down the engine after a set idle time. However, in certain working conditions — such as when using the truck as a stationary power source, during long loading operations, or when continuous operation of climate systems is needed — this automatic shutdown can disrupt workflow.

Through the TruckTools software, we can remotely disable the Idle Timer on your truck quickly and securely, giving you full control over engine runtime without constant restarts. You can also purchase a TruckTools license to manage this setting independently and optimize your entire fleet.

Disabling the Idle Timer is especially useful for transport companies, construction firms, and any businesses that require uninterrupted engine operation under special working conditions.

Why it’s needed / Key benefits:

  • Support equipment operation: keep the engine running to power hydraulic, air conditioning, or other systems.
  • Boost productivity: avoid unnecessary shutdowns and increase operational readiness.
  • Flexibility in use: adapt the truck to specific working conditions.
  • Resource saving: fewer start/stop cycles extend the life of starters and batteries.
